InterContinental Houston ballroom

Title

InterContinental Houston ballroom

Description

Rendering of ballroom of the Inter-Continental Houston hotel by Syd Mead.

From Neal Prince's Interior Design Concept for the hotel: "The ballroom will continue the classical flavor of the lobby. Heavy moldings will be utilized as frames to surround wall materials such as upholstered acoustical panels, carpeted inserts and beveled mirror. These elements will be accented with inlaid brass strips. Partitions will be coordinated with the wall treatment with similar detailing. Entrance and service doors will be heavily paneled wood doors with dire-rated construction. Specially designed heavy bronze hardware will be used. The Space will be completely carpeted and will utilize portable dance floor and platforms. The coffered ceilings will be executed with heavy scale molded plaster or wood detailing and will incorporate custom-made, large scale crystal chandeliers and track lighting plus outlets for special lighting. Matching style crystal wall brackets will surround the perimeter of the room. Air conditioning will be 'linear' and combined into the design of the ceiling."
